Professional Attire to Match Rutgers Students' Ambitions

The Rutgers—New Brunswick Career Closet empowers students to step confidently into their careers. Opening spring 2025 on College Avenue, it offers new and gently used professional attire, helping students make strong impressions at interviews, internships, and career fairs.

Known for academic excellence, diversity, and strong resumes in leadership and research, Rutgers—New Brunswick students benefit from this vital resource. With nearly 75% receiving financial aid, the Closet ensures access to attire that reflects their skills. Donations are welcome starting in November—help support students in presenting themselves as the talented professionals they are.

Help Students Dress for Success: Donate Today!

To support the Rutgers Career Closet, we welcome donations of new or gently used professional attire that can help our students make a lasting impression. Items should be appropriate for interviews, internships, career fairs, and professional events, helping students look polished and feel confident in any setting.

  1. What to Donate:
    • Keep in Mind: With limited space, we want to focus on versatile pieces that empower students to dress confidently for professional events.
    • Accepted Items: Suits (matching blazer and pants/skirt), neutral or professional blazers and jackets, solid or subtly patterned dress shirts and blouses, cardigans and vests, dress pants and skirts, business-appropriate dresses (knee-length or longer), and professional ties, scarves, and belts.
    • Clothing Guidelines: Items should be clean, new or gently used, free of major damage, and suitable for an interview or office setting. We are not accepting jewelry, shoes, or other accessories.
    • Additional Support: Amazon gift cards are also appreciated to help us buy essential inventory items.
  2. Prepare Your Donation:
    • Clean & Neat: Make sure all items are clean and either folded or hung on hangers if possible.
    • Label: Place items in a bag or box labeled “Career Closet Donation.”

    Managed by Student Colleagues!

The Career Closet is managed primarily by Peer Career Advisors and Customer Relations Interns within Career Exploration and Success, providing hands-on experience to students dedicated to helping their peers succeed. These student leaders handle daily operations, inventory management, and client support, ensuring access to professional attire for Rutgers students.

By coordinating donation drives, assisting with attire selection, and maintaining organization, these student colleagues gain essential skills in project management, customer service, and teamwork. This student-led model supports the Rutgers community while equipping the managers with valuable skills for their future careers.
