  • Intern for a day is scheduled during spring break (Monday – Friday).

  • IFAD 2025 applications open on Monday, November 18, and will remain open through Friday, January 24th, 2025.

  • Intern for a Day offers both virtual and in-person options for participants. The program recognizes the importance of flexibility and caters to the preferences and needs of both students and employers. Whether you choose to have a virtual or in-person experience will depend on the specific opportunities available, and the arrangements made with your host organization. Rest assured that the Intern for a Day program aims to provide meaningful experiences, regardless of the format chosen.

  • Before you select an employer, be sure to double check the modality of the experience. If your employer of choice is offering an in-person experience, please note that you are responsible for making your own travel arrangements. 

  • If you find yourself unable to participate in Intern for a Day, please please notify us as soon as possible.

    • Be proactive: Take initiative and engage actively throughout the day. Ask questions, seek opportunities to learn, and participate in discussions.
    • Observe and learn: Pay attention to the tasks, processes, and dynamics of the workplace. Absorb as much information as possible to gain a better understanding of the industry or career field.

    Description: "Jazzercise is the original dance fitness program, and first to be franchised. As a Jazzercise instructor and business owner, I have a broad skill set I must employ. Some small business owners wear many hats, but I wear many shoes - dancing, teaching, performing, fitness knowledge, coaching/motivational, focused on women's wellness experiences, business entrepreneurship (finances, team management, communication), sales (marketing, social media, customer accumulation, customer retention), event planner, etc. I'm looking for an intern-for-a-day to share a unique business ownership experience, but also to get honest feedback from the intern about their customer service experience and learn more about opportunities for me to improve my social media content.

    My ideal IFAD candidate would have some flexibility with their schedule and be interested in dance, fitness, and empowering women. I would expect some in-person time at my Jazzercise locations, in East Brunswick and/or Hillsborough (depending on the location and day, morning classes are at 9 or 9:15am and evening classes are Mon/Wed/Thurs at 5:30 or 5:45pm). During the day there would be opportunities for in-person or virtual time together. As a Rutgers alumna, I'm so supportive of my alma mater and I believe in giving back to the community.     Description: Intern for the Day will shadow a supportive housing case manager in the field. The supportive housing program is a scattered site, meaning all tenants/clients live in different areas of the Bronx. Home visits are conducted bi-weekly. During home visits the case manager can assist with a variety of services (scheduling medical appointments/transportation, reviewing medical paperwork, escorting a client to their medical appointment, assisting with housing related issues and other case management related activities). The intern will be expected to travel by public transportation.

    Description: The 691-acre Bayard Cutting Arboretum was the former home of William Cutting, now a New York State Park with a mission “to provide an oasis of beauty and quiet for the pleasure, rest and refreshment of those who delight in outdoor beauty; and to bring about a greater appreciation and understanding of the value and importance of informal planting.” The current collection of fir, spruce, pine, cypress, hemlock, yew and other lesser-known conifers is one of the most extensive to be found in the United States. Perennial borders, woodland trails, coastal gardens, natural wetlands, forest, and a CSA farm can also be found in the arboretum’s vast acreage.     Description: "IFAD Students will be introduced to SGS's Environmental Lab in South Brunswick Township. First, they will be assigned an SGS Mentor who will review expectations for both the company and the intern, followed closely by a safety presentation and lab tour.     Description: "IFAD Students will be introduced to SGS's Environmental Lab in South Brunswick Township. First, they will be assigned an SGS Mentor who will review expectations for both the company and the intern, followed closely by a safety presentation and lab tour. Prior to entering the laboratory, Interns will be assigned standard Personal Protective Equipment including lab coat, safety glasses, and disposable nitrile gloves.
