Ava Aulisi

Ava is the Program Director for the Education, Human Services, Non-Profits & Law, Public Health, Policy, and Safety Career Interest Communities within the Office of Career Exploration and Success at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Ava assists students in navigating their career journeys through alum mentorship and engagement, networking opportunities, programming, and advisement. Additionally, Ava serves as a Chair of the Education, Human Services, Non-Profits & Law, Public Health, Policy, and Safety Advisory Board, where she collaborates with campus partners to form strategic partnerships in programming, student services, employment opportunities, and career development.

 

Scott Borden

Scott Borden is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Career Counselor on staff at Rutgers University Career Exploration and Success (CES). Scott brings over 20 years of professional experience to guiding students and adults in making informed educational, career, and life-planning decisions. He manages and trains graduate student counseling interns for CES and maintains a private counseling and consulting practice in central NJ.

 

Bill Keyes

Bill Keyes is Program Director for International House Philadelphia (IHP), a nonprofit organization that aids in the success of international students across Greater Philadelphia. Bill is an immigrant to the US and has spent the last 7 years supporting international students and scholars in Philadelphia. Prior to joining IHP, Bill managed International Student and Scholar Services at University of the Sciences, serving as the PDSO/RO and advising students and scholars on immigration matters.

 

Maria Mihaylova

As a former international student, Maria is passionate about helping F-1 international students understand and plan their futures in the United States. She is a Senior Associate at Klasko Immigration Law Partners and advises small, medium and large corporate employers on immigration matters. She also works with entrepreneurs and investors, helping start-up organizations retain the best talent they need.

Networking is integral to personal and professional communication and crucial to your building a personal brand and professional success. While this term is used often, and this concept is simple in theory, the practice of networking can be more challenging to engage in. As international students, come learn key networking basics to simplify this process of communication to succeed in your professional growth.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn and define networking, networking etiquette, and personal branding 
  • The basics of networking in personal and professional settings ·
  • Unique challenges posed by digital networking 
  • Practice opportunities to craft your own personal elevator pitch and when it can be used

Honing Your Visa Status Elevator Pitch

Many employers do not understand how easy it is to hire an international graduate in F-1 status. For international students, the ability to summarize this in a concise and positive way can make all the difference during the application process. With the help of a facilitator, students who join this session will workshop their “visa status elevator pitch” in groups and come away ready to deploy it when needed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Equip students with strategies and language to tackle questions about visa statuses & employment
  • Give students the confidence to own their unique soft skills as global citizens
  • Mitigate students’ anxiety about discussing immigration matters

All the panelists were international Students when they attended Rutgers and have now secured full time employment. Learn about how they navigated barriers and achieved career success! Students will have the opportunity to ask questions they may have.

Interested in working in the U.S. after graduation? Attend this in-person session presented by the immigration law firm, Klasko. Through the session you will learn the following: 1. Current Regulatory/Immigration Policy Updates (OPT, H-1B, and more) 2. Alternatives to the H-1B visa program - options to continue study or training in the United States 3. Common Avenues that lead to Lawful Permanent Residence and 4. Resources for assistance with immigration matters.

Learning Objectives:

Through the session you will learn the following:

  • Current Regulatory/Immigration Policy Updates (OPT, H-1B, and more)
  • Alternatives to the H-1B visa program - options to continue study or training in the United States
