Communication in the Workplace (In-Person)
Strong communication is one of the fastest ways to build trust, stand out at work, and feel more confident in professional settings. In this workshop, you will practice how to communicate clearly and professionally in common workplace situations, especially in emails and messages with supervisors and teammates. You will also learn how to use the right tone, avoid miscommunication, and follow up effectively.
What You Will Learn and Do
You will leave with:
- Practical email and message guidelines you can use immediately
- Examples of professional tone that still feels like you
- Strategies for communicating with supervisors, including asking questions and clarifying expectations
- Tips for collaborating with teammates, including respectful communication when things get busy
- A quick checklist for proofreading and sending professional messages
Great fit for you if you:
- Want to feel more confident emailing or messaging your supervisor
- Are unsure how to write a professional email without sounding too formal or too casual
- Want to avoid miscommunication in group projects or on-the-job teamwork
- Want to improve your professionalism for internships, research roles, or future jobs
How to prepare
Bring a laptop or phone if you can. If you feel comfortable, bring a recent email you sent or a message you were unsure about so you can apply the tips to a real example.
