The Scarlet Bridge Career Program connects students with dedicated Rutgers recruiters through one-on-one informal exploratory conversations that strengthen career exploration, confidence, and readiness for life post-graduation. 

What is a Bridge Year Experience?

A bridge year is a structured experience between graduation and what comes next. These opportunities allow you to gain hands-on experience, develop transferable skills, build professional networks, and explore your career interests while making a meaningful impact. For many students, a bridge year can provide valuable preparation and clarity as they take their next step after Rutgers.

  • The Scarlet Career Bridge Program is a recruiter-in-residence-style program that offers students from Rutgers-New Brunswick the opportunity to connect one-on-one with recruiters from the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, City Year, and Teach For America. 

    Through one-on-one office hours, students can: 

    • Learn about bridge-year and service-oriented opportunities
    • Explore how service experiences connect to long-term career goals
    • Understand application timelines and expectations
    • Receive guidance on things like resumes and interviews from recruiters
    • Build confidence in making post-graduation decisions 

    Whether you are considering a gap year, exploring public service, preparing for graduate school, or deciding what comes next after Rutgers, this program offers a place to ask questions and explore options. 

  • Office hours are available to all Rutgers-New Brunswick students. 

  • No. Students from all majors, degree levels, and career interests are welcome. Many students use these conversations to explore career pathways and build skills. 

  • Students schedule a one-on-one appointment with a participating recruiter in advance via Handshake. All employer visits are pre-scheduled. While we do accept walk-ins, they are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. 

  • It depends on where you are in your exploration. If you’re just looking to learn what each employer is offering, prepare by researching them and bringing relevant questions. If you’re looking to better understand recruiting timelines or get feedback on things like your resume, please bring a copy for the recruiter to review. 

  • No. Office hours are intended to support exploration and informed decision-making. 

  • Bridge Year Partners will visit during the Fall 2026 semester, following the schedule below:

    • The Peace Corps: Coming Soon
    • Teach For America: September 22, October 13, and November 17
    • City Year: September 29 and October 27

  • Yes. Students are encouraged to explore multiple bridge year experiences to find the one that best suits their values, skills and interests. 

  • This will be answered once each organization tells us what their require qualifications are.

  • All appointments are scheduled via Handshake.
