Employer Spotlight Panel: Building Career Competence (In-Person)

Want to know what employers are actually looking for when they hire interns and early-career talent? Join this employer panel to hear how early work experiences, including on-campus jobs, help students build the skills and professional habits that lead to internships and full-time offers. Employers will share what stands out in applications, interviews, and workplace behavior, and how you can start building career competence right now through the experiences you already have.

What You Will Learn and Do

You will:

  • Hear directly from employers about the skills they expect in interns and new graduates

  • Gain awareness regarding the value of developing transferable skills while a student

  • Understand what makes candidates stand out on resumes, LinkedIn, and in interviews

  • Get insight into professional behaviors that build trust and career momentum

  • Ask questions during Q&A and leave with clear next steps

Great fit for you if you:

  • Are applying for internships, research roles, or entry-level jobs

  • Want to understand how employers evaluate experience

  • Want to feel more confident connecting with professionals

  • Want practical advice you can act on immediately

How to prepare

Bring one question you want to ask employers. If you can, review one internship or job posting you are interested in so you can listen for relevant skills and expectations.
