17 schools and colleges. 121 majors. 1 you.
You have a LOT of academic options to choose from at Rutgers, not to mention the even greater number of careers you could pursue after graduating. It’s no surprise that most students I meet with experience confusion when it comes to choosing a major or a career path.
Thankfully, there is a very simple, easy-to-use, no fluff tool to help make this process a lot easier! Sokanu is a career test (no, you don’t have to study for this one) that asks you a series of questions all about a topic you know better than anyone: you. The questions are designed to measure different aspects of your personality, your interests, and more. Sokanu then uses all this information to suggest careers that would be a good match for you. Your results could reinforce some ideas you’ve already been considering or give you some new ideas too.
A few tips to get the most out of Sokanu:
- Don’t overthink the questions. Answer quickly. You won’t ruin your results.
- Complete the optional Personality Assessment in addition to the other tests; trust me, it’ll be worth it.
- Select a career in your Top Matches to access a ton of information about that career; don’t just make assumptions about the career based on the title alone!
- View the Trait Report and Personality Report under the “My Reports” section. The information here will give you a deeper understanding of your strengths, interests, personality, and values and how they all relate to your career.
Of course, you don’t have to make this decision all by yourself! At Career Exploration and Success, we have a large team of career counselors and advisors who help students all year round. My colleagues and I would be happy to meet with you to discuss your Sokanu results and help you figure out how to choose your major and career.
