What Can I Do With This Major for Majors in Supply Chain Managememt

Introduction

Simply stated, Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the way business gets done. SCM involves the movement and transformation of raw materials through a series/network of suppliers and buyers in order to create products and services for customers. Each firm performs design, planning, execution, control, and monitoring of supply chain activities with the objective of creating shareholder value, building a competitive infrastructure, leveraging worldwide logistics, synchronizing supply with demand, and measuring performance globally.

The Department of Supply Chain Management and Marketing Sciences takes a cross-functional approach, giving students the tools they need to manage all aspects of a business process, from procurement, strategic partnering and alliances, manufacturing/service development, information flow, cycle time management, logistics and distribution, to supplier/customer relationship management. The Supply Chain Management curriculum is highly competitive and regularly benchmarked against top business schools in the nation. In 2009, the Rutgers Business School supply chain program was ranked 11th nationally by AMR Research. Students can obtain a B.S., MBA and Ph.D. degree in Supply Chain Management.

The Supply Chain Management Department also partners extensively with industry leaders to develop practical solutions in response to problems encountered by the business community relative to the management of the end-to-end supply chain. Students interact regularly with practicing supply management professionals as adjunct faculty, guest speakers and in class projects.

Major corporations and professional organizations support the SCM program through generous scholarship programs. Corporations sponsoring ‘Honors Track Scholarships’ include AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Converge, Johnson & Johnson, Panasonic, International Flavors & Fragrances, L’Oreal, Unilever, and Rutgers. Rutgers SCM students have also received scholarships from the Institute for Supply Management and the Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals.
