Career Assessments

Career assessments are available to help all students develop career plans. Students and alumni are eligible to use them to facilitate their career decision making in cooperation with and at the discretion of a career counselor.

Some of the assessments you can use for free online are:

  • FOCUS 2:  Assess your interests, values, skills, personality, and leisure preferences to explore career options and academic programs.  We strongly encourage you to bring your results in during a career assistance appointment to have one of our career advisors work with you to interpret the results.
  • Rutgers Online Career Planning Site: Explore your interests, skills, and values to learn how they relate to Rutgers University academic programs and general career options.
  • Find Your Career Cluster: Review your interests and how they relate to the five Rutgers career interest cluster areas.

Additional assessments (fee Information) are available through a career assistance appointment:

  • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: This personality instrument is based on psychological types and temperaments. It provides information about your personality style and the way that you interact with other people. This information is used to help you understand the relationship between personality and careers.
  • Strong Interest Inventory: The Strong Interest Inventory provides information on overall patterns of interests that can be explored for both immediate and long-range career, educational and leisure planning. It is designed to expand your thinking in the areas of career exploration and planning.

No assessment instruments can make your career decisions for you. But they can be helpful tools for gathering information about your interests, skills, personality style, and the world of work. This information will help you make appropriate career decisions. Schedule an appointment with a career counselor to determine if any of these assessments are appropriate choices for you:
